What began as a love for wild places became a lifelong calling.

A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.

About Nikita Rix

Founder of Crisp & Khaki Curio Management | Lodge and Wildlife Photographer

Born and raised in Namibia, I have always belonged to the bush. My childhood unfolded beneath vast skies and endless Namibian horizons; spending weekends on the farm, earning ten Namibian dollars for every elephant I spotted in Etosha, or weaving imagination through stories of Shingalana and The Lion King. Africa wasn’t just where I grew up; it became part of who I am.

For over two decades, horses were my bridge to nature. Competing professionally taught me discipline, intuition, and quiet respect for the wild; lessons that still shape how I see through the lens today.

After earning my Honours in Psychology at Stellenbosch University, I returned home to work within Namibian communities. That journey soon evolved into a different kind of storytelling; through fabric, form, and design. I opened two concept studios celebrating African craftsmanship, sourcing fashion and homeware from artisans across the continent. Those early ventures taught me the power of curation - of connecting people not only to beautiful things, but to the stories behind them.

When the world slowed during the pandemic, I found new direction. A sewing initiative in Kongola, where we trained women to support their families, reignited my sense of purpose. Around that time, I picked up a camera; not to document, but to translate the feeling of Africa: her rawness, her luxury, her soul.

What began as passion has become my life’s work. Today, I specialise in high-end travel and lodge photography across Africa as well as curio shop management, crafting visual narratives for luxury lodges, safari brands, and conservation projects. My background in psychology continues to shape everything I do, from how I frame emotion to how I design retail experiences that evoke memory and belonging.

Through Crisp & Khaki, I merge photography and retail strategy to help lodges and brands express their identity authentically. Whether through a photograph, a product display, or the atmosphere of a safari boutique, my purpose remains the same: to make people feel Africa.

This continent has shaped every chapter of my story - and continues to. With camera in hand and reverence for its wild heart, I remain devoted to capturing Africa as she truly is: untamed, elegant, and alive.

Beyond the Lens

My Creative Identity

I work at the intersection of art, travel, and storytelling; blending psychology, design, and photography to translate the feeling of Africa into imagery that resonates long after it’s seen.

What Inspires Me Most

I’m endlessly drawn to contrasts; dust and silk, wilderness and design, quiet moments and cinematic light. It’s where refinement and rawness meet that I find my stories.

Behind the Lens

My greatest passion lies in capturing wildlife and culture; the pulse of Africa’s untamed rhythm and the depth of human connection. These moments tell stories that can’t be written, only felt.

A Moment I’ll Never Forget

Some places defy definition; they feel sacred, though they stand beneath open skies. Gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda was one of those moments. In the stillness of the forest, locking eyes with a mountain gorilla felt like stepping into a holy place; a reminder that reverence doesn’t belong only within walls, but wherever life meets awe.
